The Stoki reservoirs are a unique technical monument in Europe, showcasing the highest engineering mastery of the early 20th century. The reservoirs are built on a square plan, each 60 meters on a side. Each reservoir's vault consists of 100 domes supported by 81 columns. The "forest of columns" with brick arches and domes is reminiscent of medieval cathedrals, hence the name: "Underground Cathedral in Stoki" To ensure such massive structures can withstand the enormous water pressure, the reservoirs are constructed of waterproof and pressure-resistant brick. The floors and walls are arched to evenly distribute the immense pressure of 60,000 tons of water. Currently, water is pumped into the reservoirs via pipelines from 19 deep wells and a small amount from the intake in Tomaszów Mazowiecki on the Pilica River.
